William E. “Pinhead” Goins, age 84, of Ft. Myers, FL and formerly of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at his residence. Born April 12, 1929 in Madison, Indiana, he was the son of Everett and Louise Martha (Helt) Goins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Guthrie on November 21, 2006 and one brother, Danny Goins on September 24, 1986. Mr. Goins worked at Envirex for twenty-four years and after retirement worked for the Indiana State Highway Department for ten years. He was a sixty year member of the Western Fire Company #3, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #9 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10097 in Ft. Myers, FL. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Madison and was an active member in the Republican Party. Mr. Goins was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War having served from 1951 to 1953. Survivors include his wife, Janet Sue (Thornton) Goins whom he married in 1957; one daughter, Susan Goins and her husband, Tom Cox of Anderson, IN; one son, Donald Goins and his wife, Kerry of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; six sisters, Helen Smith, Audrey Andrews, Mary Duncan and her husband, Jim, Margaret Carlow and her husband, Paul, Sherrill Holt and her husband, Jim and Karen Thomas all of Madison; four brothers, Benjamin Goins and his wife, Mary Jo, Charles Goins, John Goins and his wife, Wanda all of Madison and Richard Goins and his wife, Marianne of St. Mary’s, GA; three grandchildren, Andrew and Bradley Goins both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Sammantha Cox of Anderson, IN and several nieces and nephews. Rev. Troy Hedges will conduct memorial services at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive with inurnment in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #9 will conduct military graveside services. Family and friends may call at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive from 10:00 A.M. until time of service Saturday. Western Fire Company #3 fireman’s service will be conducted Saturday at the Vail Funeral Chapel. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Contribution cards will be available at the Vail Funeral Chapel.
