William "Joe" Joseph Day, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world on December 9, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his beloved family. Born on October 17, 1948, in the small, picturesque town of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Joe graced the earth for 76 years, leaving behind a legacy woven with compassion, humor, and unwavering love.
A proud graduate of Brownstown High School, class of 1966, Joe was a Christian, instilling values of kindness and faith in all who knew him. His commitment to his country was profound; he served honorably in the United States Army, enduring two tours in Vietnam, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and the gratitude of his nation.
Those fortunate enough to know Joe will forever cherish his wonderful sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his innate ability to accept people with open arms. His spirit radiated warmth, wrapping family and friends alike in a comforting embrace. As a man of many talents, he found solace in woodworking, crafting remarkable creations with his skilled hands and sharing tales of his handiwork with those around him.
Family was the heart of Joe's existence. His greatest pride was in his children: Richard Day and his wife Sarah of Freetown, Indiana, Andrew Day and his wife Dacota of Crothersville, Indiana, and Patricia Ault and her husband Michael of Brownstown, Indiana. Each cherished moment spent with them strengthened their bond. Joe's adoration extended to his eight grandchildren—Joshua, Alyssa, Austin, Casey, Hunter, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Malakai—who brought him boundless joy and laughter, as well as to his two great-grandchildren, Axel and Azaliah, who were the twinkling stars in his twilight years.
Joe is survived by his beloved siblings; Gary Day and his wife Margie of Brownstown, Indiana, Robert Day and his wife Nikki of Kentucky, and sister Louise Gahs of Peru, Indiana. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Linda Day of North Vernon, Indiana, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his generosity and kindness.
Though he is mourned deeply by all who loved him, Joe reunites in eternal peace with those who departed before him—his parents, John H. Day and Virginia Back Day, his beloved wife Judith Hoover Day, and his brother Johnny Day.
In this time of remembrance, the family invites all who knew Joe to celebrate his life and legacy during visitations at Christensen Family Funeral Home - Winklepleck Chapel in Brownstown, Indiana on December 17, 2024, from 5 PM to 8 PM, and again on December 18, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1 PM. He will be laid to rest at Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Cemetery in Freetown, Indiana.
As we bid farewell to William "Joe" Joseph Day, let us carry forward the lessons of love and laughter that he so generously imparted. May his memory forever inspire us to embrace life with the same joy, acceptance, and care that he embodied daily.
