Waylen Lavertia (Smith) Cass, age 95, a native of Union City, Tennessee and a resident of Leota, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on October 27, 1928 to the late Robert Smith and the late Opal (Brantley) Smith. She was a longtime faithful member of Pilgrim Holiness Church in Austin, Indiana. She loved to sing and was a longtime song leader at the church and was an avid volunteer and enjoyed going on missions trips to provide aid and comfort and spreading the Gospel. Her faith was the most important priority in her life. She was an example of God's love and did the best she could to let His light shine. Waylen loved people with her whole heart and they loved her in return. She was an amazing woman who lived an amazing life. Waylen was an accomplished business woman, together with her husband, they were the owners of Don Cass Farms where she served as secretary and treasurer for over 40 years. She was truly an inspiration to many through her actions, words, deeds and served as a mentor to many. She was a very humble lady that never put her priorities into earthly wealth, but felt to build her treasures in heaven. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and was an excellent baker, especially her apple pie and whoopie pie. Upon the passing of her mother, Waylen stepped up and became a mother figure to her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life that she touched in her own special way. She is survived by her three sisters in law, Margaret Freed of Kokomo, Indiana, Mary Thurston of Tipton County, Indiana and Betty Hale of Tipton County, Indiana. One brother in law, Bob Cass of Tipton County, Indiana.
