Thomas R. Gay, age 77 of Brownstown, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Schneck Medical Center. Born September 5, 1937 in Surprise, he was the son of George and Avis (Anderson) Gay. On October 5, 1958 in Uniontown, he married Lena Hill. Tom graduated from Cortland High School where he played basketball. After school, Tom served in the U.S. Navy for four years and then he worked at the Cummins Engine Company and retired after 29 years of service. Tom then drove school bus for the Brownstown School Corporation for several years. He was a member of the Surprise Christian Church where he had served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge, Knights of Pythias, the Scottish Rite, and a member of the American Legion Post 89. Tom enjoyed to golf, but also enjoyed fishing, cutting wood and traveling. He also liked to watch IU basketball. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lena; son Brad (Sandy) Gay of Seymour; daughter, Pam (Monte) Thompson of Brownstown; brothers, George (Shirley) Gay of Brownstown and John (Peggy) Gay of Seymour; sisters, Jean (Lloyd) Meyers of Columbus and Nancy Lucas of Seymour. Grandchildren were Cally (Matthew) Morris, Missy Thompson, Jacob Gay and Carla (Tyler) Sipes. Great-grandchildren were Ava Thompson and Dax Thomas Morris. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Gay and a brother-in-law Russell Lucas. A Masonic service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 8th then followed by the funeral service at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. Visitation will be from 9:00am until 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Acme cemetery with full military rites. Memorials can be made to the Surprise Christian Church, American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation through the funeral home.
