Thomas J Scott

James Thomas “Tom” Joseph Scott, 84, Brownstown, passed away on October 18, 2022 at his home. Mr. Scott was born on January 20, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Joseph Cecil Scott and Bertha Christina Crofts Scott, who preceded him in death.
James Thomas Joseph Scott, better known as Tom, was a 1956 graduate of Whiteland High School and served in the Air Force Reserve. Tom was employed with Cummins Engine Company and was a 52-year member of the American Legion Post 89, belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 52 years and was a member of Moose Lodge 418 for 47 years.
Thomas loved fishing, hunting, all sports, supporting the Braves, “winning Big” at the lottery, and being with ol cuz Gregg and the entire Scott families. Over the last 55 years, Tom and Gregg went on many excursions often introducing themselves as brothers. If you could find Tom anywhere it was at the Brownstown Park tending to the field and keeping score at countless games. He had a special bond with his grandson, Hunter, who also shared his love for sports. He spent many years pitching to Hunter and attending his games. He loved being with Helen’s family and pitching/playing sports with the grand kids and great grandkids. He enjoyed traveling to Avon, IN to watch Gregg and his two sons play softball on The Old, Bad & Ugly softball team and watching the kids play numerous high school sports. Back in the day, many kids played basketball in the old white barn on top of the hill. Tom lifted weights his entire life and was in better shape than many much younger than him. He lifted weights with Dick the Bruiser, played on the Miami Dolphins softball team, playing with such football stars as Larry Csonka. He was a catcher on Poky’s Tavern Softball team that won many fastpitch softball tournaments all throughout the Midwest.
Tom always loved to give words of wisdom and encouragement. “Think straight and do right old buddy” was a phrase heard often. He lived a very modest life but was the kindest, friendliest person you could have ever known and would do anything for anybody. He will be missed greatly.
Mr. Scott is survived by his special friend, Helen Anderson. The two spent many years together enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren; one daughter, Kendra Moore; granddaughter, Amanda (Kyle) Land; great granddaughter, Zoey Seal; great grandson, Trenton Land; one sister, Linda J. Scott; one brother, Bob Scott: his cousin and fishing buddy, Gregg Scott.
Final wishes have been entrusted to Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
