Teresa Dawn (Vandegrift) Lafferty

April 24, 1969 — August 31, 2024

Scottsburg

Teresa Dawn (Vandegrift) Lafferty, a radiant soul whose love and generosity knew no bounds, departed from this world on August 31, 2024, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and warmth. Born on April 24, 1969, in El Dorado, Kansas. Teresa grew up embodying the very essence of compassion, often putting the needs of others above her own. Her heart was a boundless reservoir of love, which she poured into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

A proud 1988 graduate of Scottsburg High School, Teresa’s journey was rooted in faith; she lived her life as a devoted Christian, finding solace and strength in her beliefs. She carried a spirit of creativity within her, indulging her passions for drawing, coloring, crafts, and scrapbooking, each stroke and design a reflection of the beautiful tapestry of life she cherished.

Teresa’s family was her sanctuary, and she held them close in her heart. Affectionately known as "Nana," she cared deeply for her grandchildren: Sabryn Richey, Teagan Richey, and Jackson Vandegrift. The laughter and joy she found in their presence enriched her days and filled her home with a sense of purpose. Her love as a mother was profound, and she embraced her role with open arms, nurturing her children – her son, Justin Vandegrift and his wife Amanda of Madison, Indiana, and her stepsons and stepdaughter whom she loved as her very own: John Lafferty and his wife Becky of Scottsburg, Indiana, Eric Lafferty of Austin, Indiana, and Jamie Richey and her husband Brian of Nashville, Tennessee.

Teresa’s kitchen was a sacred space where magic happened. A wonderful cook, she delighted in preparing family favorites that would bring everyone together, creating not just meals, but cherished memories. Her renowned macaroni and cheese, homemade cheese balls, and deviled eggs were staples at gatherings, each bite a testament to her love poured into her cooking.

An animal lover at heart, Teresa found companionship in her beloved dogs, Skeeter and Chloe, who enriched her life with their unconditional love.

Her father, Earle Vandegrift; her mother, Mildred (Thomas) Vandegrift; her husband of 14 years, Aubrey Lafferty and her brother, Jeff Vandegrift, have preceded her in death.
