Steven William Atwood

Steven William Atwood, age 62, a native of New Albany, Indiana and a resident of Lexington, Indiana, passed from this life on Monday, February 7, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on October 28, 1958 to the late Volley Atwood and the late Margaret (Nance) Payne. Steven will forever be remembered as a gentle, kind and faithful man that was a hard worker and wonderful provider for his family. He was a man that was set in his ways and lived his life by example to his family. It didn't matter if it was good or bad, he would always say 'it is what it is, you gotta keep moving'. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outside. He has few friends but he was intensely loyal to the ones he had. Above all that he enjoyed in this life, nothing compared to the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the ultimate 'Family Man' and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way. 

He is survived by his loving wife of over 42 years, Barbara A. (Plaskett) Atwood of Lexington, Indiana. Two sons, Todd A. Atwood of Scottsburg, Indiana and Steven M. Atwood and his significant other, Candace Grether of Lexington, Indiana. Two brothers, David Atwood and his wife Mary Pat of New Albany, Indiana and Ronnie Atwood and his wife Donna of Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Three sisters, Valarie Caffee and her husband Rick of Sellersburg, Indiana, Anita Sprigler and her husband Steve of New Albany, Indiana and Kelly Hammer and her husband Wayne of Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Five grand children, Aidyn Atwood, Autumn Atwood, Gaven Atwood, Makynna Atwood, Zeke Pritchard and Emma Atwood. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jim Hudson officiating.
