Steven Howard Smith of Danville,Ky.
born 08/17/1956
Passed away of what is believed to be natural causes on 07/17/2018. He will be cremated and his ashes spread among the "knobs and hollers" surrounding the farm where he spent his early life, Lake Mead in Nv. a place he loved, and
Mount Lemon near Tucson, Az where his mother's ashes were spread. The family will have a celebration of life gathering to honor his memory.
He is survived by his grandmother
Ruth Smith from Parksville,Ky who raised him and he called "mom", 4 children (3 daughter's, 1 son), and
7 grandchildren ranging from a newborn to a college lacrosse player who will turn 23 this year. He was the oldest of six children, and his 4 sisters and "little brother" are shocked and saddened by his sudden passing.
Stevie as he was known by friends and family was born and raised in Boyle County on his Mamaw and Papaw's tobacco farm. He moved to Las Vegas, Nv. Sometime in the early 70's and would spend the majority of his adult life in the Southwest between "Vegas" and Tucson, Az. mostly. He was a longtime member of the Carpenters Union of Nevada, and spent a short while as an iron worker. He worked on some of the most iconic hotel/casinos and was considered a "Master" Carpenter, often a lead man on the job. He loved country music as well as classic rock, and was a huge
Denver Broncos fan after spending a few years as a commercial bus driver in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Stevie lived a good and full life. He loved to joke and laugh, enjoy a frosty beverage or two and didn't mind a taste of Ky. sipping tea, a.k.a sour mash now and then. Those of us who knew him well will remember a proud Ky. Boy with lightening quick wit, and some of the best "off the cuff" phrases and one liners to frame a moment with humor. Though the last five years of his life were tough as he dealt with health issues from a heart attack and COPD, Memories of a hard working, handsome and well groomed man in a Broncos T shirt, Levi's jeans and a cold can of Coor's is the image that will come to mind for most who had the pleasure of his aquaintance. He was and will remain in memory beloved by those closest to him, and sorely missed is an understatement to the many greiving loved ones he leaves behind. From your whole family Stevie.. "We love you in passing as in life, and thank you for all the joy, you brought to us"."Rest in Eternal Peace knowing your legend looms large and shall go forward in stories that make us smile and laugh, and if, and when we cry, they will be tears of joy as we remember you at your best. You will be forever missed. Until we meet again in the heavenly mist of the afterlife".
If anyone would like to make a donation to help with the cost of his cremation, It would be a true blessing and greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly to Woodlawn Cremation. The family thanks you in advance. A Celebration of Life Gathering in his honor will be announced at a later date
