Shirley (Monroe) Beswick

Shirley Beswick a resident of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 87 at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. Born on February 28, 1937, in Scottsburg, she was a cherished presence in the lives of her family and friends. Shirley was a proud graduate of Scottsburg High School, finishing her studies in 1955 and also a lifelong member of First Christian Church where she was known as the Sunday School Coffee Maker.

As a wife, mother, and grandmother, Shirley displayed an unyielding love and devotion to her family. She is survived by her son Bill Beswick Jr. and his wife Melissa, and her daughter Patty Keith, all of Scottsburg. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Joshua Logan Keith, Erica Keith, Brian Leonard, Nicholas Beswick, and Connor Beswick. They will carry forward the warmth and kindness that defined Shirley's character.

Shirley's personality was marked by her strong will, modesty, and generous spirit. A wonderful mother and grandmother, she fostered deep connections with children and delighted in their company. She was known for her loving and humble nature, always putting others before herself.

Her passions included her faith, from which she drew immense strength; she loved attending church and spending time reading her Bible. In addition to her spiritual pursuits, Shirley enjoyed creative hobbies like crocheting, sewing, and embroidery, demonstrating a remarkable talent for crafting. She also had a fondness for leisure, often found engaged in her favorite soap opera, Days of Our Lives.

Her parents, George Monroe and Freda (Gray) Monroe, as well as her brothers, Harry Jack Monroe and Wilbur Monroe, preceded her in death, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories that she carried throughout her life.

Visitation services will be held at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home, located at 80 N 1st Street, Scottsburg, Indiana. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on October 14, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on October 15, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on the same day at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Scottsburg Cemetery. The family requests that memorial funds be directed to Norton Children's Hospital, formerly Kosairs Children.

Shirley Beswick will be remembered for her boundless love, nurturing spirit, and the indelible impact she left on those who knew her. Her memory will be held dear in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege to share in her life.
