Sandra “Sandy” Sue (Knoke) Zickler, age 79, a native and resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed peacefully with her children by her side on Monday, April 5, 2021 at her residence. Sandy was born on January 1, 1942 to the late Silas Knoke and the late Virginia (Cordes) Knoke. She graduated in 1960 from Seymour High School and attended IU where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. On March 23, 1963, She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Zickler.
Sandy was a longtime faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour Indiana. It was at her beloved church that she was baptized, confirmed and married. She enjoyed very much being a volunteer at her church and her community. She was on the planning committee for the church high school and the adult sunday school classes. She was also a member of the church choir, Woman’s Missionary League and treasurer of Psi Iota Xi of which she was an active member for many years.
Sandy worked at Twin Management Company in Columbus, Indiana, Merced County Health Department in Merced, California, Seymour Community Schools with title I tutoring program and the Jackson County Public Library. Her favorite job of all was caring for her grandchildren for many years.
Sandy served as President of the Humane Society Board of Directors for many years helping and loving homeless animals. She gave a loving home to many rescued dogs over the years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a good friend to many and she will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Hackman of Seymour, Indiana and Julie Luecke of Seymour, Indiana. One son, Craig Zickler and his wife Heather of Seymour, Indiana. One brother, John Knoke and his wife Connie of Seymour, Indiana. Two grandchildren, Sy Zickler and Gunnar Zickler, Two step grandchildren, Adam and Daniel Luecke. Also a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of over 50 years, Robert “Bob” Zickler, One sister, Bonnie Lamaster and one son in law, Dave Luecke.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre in Seymour, Indiana. A private family burial will take place on the morning of Friday, April 9, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life service to begin at 11:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Humane Society.
