Rosella K. Mcknight

Rosella Kathleen “Tommie” McKnight, age 87 of Seymour and formerly of Salem, passed away on Friday, June 13th at her home. Born February 12, 1927 in Blocher, Indiana, she was the daughter of Jesse and Dorothy (Whitehead) Atkins. On January 20, 1944 in Scottsburg, she married her childhood sweetheart , Haskell Ray McKnight, while he was home for leave from serving in the Navy during W.W. II. Rosella and Haskell managed a restaurant in Scottsburg and then owned their own furniture store in Salem during the 1960s. She worked at the Beta Shoe Factory in Salem until it closed and then retired from McKim IGA grocery in Salem. Their son, Terry Lee McKnight, was born on November 17, 1953. Rosella had two great loves in her life that was Haskell and Terry. She was a member of the East View Church of Christ in Salem for years before joining Seymour Church of Christ. Rosella enjoyed bowling in her younger years and also enjoyed camping and fishing. She also enjoyed spending time at the John Hay Museum in Salem. Survivors include her sister, Sue Ella (William) Hunt; daughter in law, Debra McKnight; two grandchildren, Chad (Dee) Bauer and Lucinda Estes; three great-grandchildren Damon Estes, Deonna Estes and Chad David Bauer. Rosella also had several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Rosella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Haskell who passed on December 19, 2012 and son Terry who passed on January 7, 2014. She was also preceded by her stepfather, John Setser and sister Ardella and Bonnie Jean. Service will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, June 18th at the Woodlawn Life Celebration Center, 311 Holiday Sq. Road. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and then on Wednesday from 9:30 until service time.
