Ronald Lee Gearries, age 74, a beloved son of Columbus, Indiana, was born on April 22, 1950, and passed away on October 4, 2024, at his residence. With a heart that embraced life in all its richness, Ronald’s spirit resonated through every note he played and every laugh he shared, leaving a melody of memories for all who were fortunate enough to cross path.
A proud graduate of Columbus North High School, class of 1968, Ronald was larger than life. He had an infectious zest for life that drew people to him like moths to a flame. A man who never met a stranger, he loved to engage with those around him, sharing laughter and stories, making connections that transcended the superficial.
His devotion to his faith was as profound as his love for music. Ronald was a longtime member of The Sanctuary Pentecostal Church in Columbus, where his love for the Lord shone brightly. A gifted drummer for over 50 years, he graced the stage with bands such as David and The Giants, enrapturing audiences with his rhythmic prowess and passion.
Ronald took immense pleasure in life’s simple joys. He was an ardent fan of the Indianapolis Colts and relished the thrill of watching IU basketball games. During his quieter moments, he could be found indulging in his cherished hobby of collecting die-cast cars—each piece a testament to his unique interests and a symbol of his playful spirit.
The love Ronald shared with his family was immeasurable. He cherished his wife of 22 years, Cheryl (Corbin) Gearries, who stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing in both the laughter and the quiet moments. Ronald was a proud father to Kendra Jackson - Hobbick and Deana Hawkins, celebrating their accomplishments and embracing every opportunity to offer guidance and support. His siblings, Glenn Gearries and his wife Lana, Larry Gearries, Debbie Riff and her husband Charles, and Patty Patterson all carry forward the legacy of love and joy that he cultivated in their family.
He was a doting grandfather to Blaze Collins, Logan Hobbick, Draven Hobbick, and Zoe Hawkins, as well as a delighted great-grandfather to Ember Jade Collins. Each of these relationships was infused with his warmth and humor, providing a steady source of laughter and wisdom.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Norman "Buddy" Gearries, and his mother, Velma (Ruton) Gearries, whose love and guidance he carried with him throughout his life. Their legacy of kindness and faith lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
As we gather to celebrate the vibrant life of Ronald Lee Gearries, let us remember a man whose laughter turned ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. His love for the Lord, his family, and his music will echo in our hearts for generations to come.
