OBITUARY OF ROLAND THOMAS JONES Roland Thomas “Tom” Jones, age 71 of Madison, passed away at 1:18am Sunday, June 23rd at the Hanover Health and Rehab. Born February 18, 1942 in Eminence, KY, he was the son of Arthur Lee and Amanda (Allnutt) Jones. On February 15, 1969 in Madison, he married Tamra L. Tevis. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2010. He retired from Reliance after over 30 years of service. Tom and his wife were also Co-Owners of Tom’s Upholstery Shop for over 35 years. They were also members of the Ryker’s Ridge Baptist Church. Tom thoroughly enjoyed to do his upholstery work and also enjoyed watching Louisville and IU Basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, though work didn’t allow him to do that often. Tom loved spending time with his four grandchildren. Survivors include his 2 daughters, Sheila R. Surrett and her husband Tom and Nicole (Nickie) Backus and her husband Chad all of Madison. Tom was also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah Backus, Maddie Backus, Chad Walter Backus and Hunter Surrett. Also surviving are six siblings, Shirley Young, Jean Hardin, Mary Woods, Walter Jones, Don Jones and Sonny (Beverly) Jones and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones. He also had several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother Paul Jones and sister Alice Nichols. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Vail Funeral Chapel at 117 Holt Drive in Madison with Dr. Paul Brewster officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 8pm Tuesday at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive and then from 10:00am Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in Ryker’s Ridge New Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Ryker’s Ridge Baptist Church or to the Hanover Health and Rehabs Alzheimer Unit through the funeral home.
