Robert Leroy Foster, age 85 of Seymour, passed away at Schneck Medical Center Sunday, July 24, 2016. Born September 26, 1930 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Ermel and Pansy (Olverson) Foster.
Robert obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois and will always be an avid Illini fan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a scout coordinator for many years. Robert served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Bataan during the Korean War and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after a 30 year career. Robert was a life member of the VFW Post #1925 and a member of the NRA and the NMLRA. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, boating and all sports.
Survivors include his wife Delores Lorraine (Barnes) Foster of Seymour, whom he married on February 11, 1956 in Austin, Indiana; his daughter, Linda Oakes and husband Ervin of Crothersville; his sons, Michael Foster and wife Cindy of Greenwood, Eric Foster and wife Mary Kay of Martinsville, and Steven Foster and wife Charity of Southport; his sister in law Anita Rayner of Crothersville; Eight grandchildren, Whitney, Corey, Benjamin, Delaney, Lindsey, Logan, Nicole and Alexis; his two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Riley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12:00pm until the time of service. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery where the American Legion Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. Memorials can be made at the funeral home to the American Diabetes Association, Salvation Army or Donor’s Choice.
