Robert Hollis

February 9, 1937 — January 31, 2025

Scottsburg

Robert Eugene Hollis (Bob), of Scottsburg, Indiana, age 87, died January 31, 2025, at The Waters of Scottsburg. He was the son of Darwin (Don) and Monace Wilson Hollis.

Most of his youth was spent in southwest Indiana around Evansville. A graduate of Reitz High School with the class of 1954, he was active in drama and musical presentations. He attended Wabash College and Evansville College where he continued with music and drama. He was a member of TKE fraternity at Evansville and continued to remain in touch with the “brothers”. One summer he toured with a professional drama company performing under tents mostly in Missouri.

He joined the Air Force and was assigned to recreational duty in Goose Bay where he was able to continue with music as a member of a rock band. He played the upright bass. They competed with bands from the stations and won trophies.

Bob came to Scottsburg in the early 1980’s. He and Wilma Hardy Hollis were married September 5, 1981. After working for radio stations for a while, he became the Scott County Veterans Affairs Officer. Next, he became a reporter and later editor of the Scott County papers.

Bob and Wilma shared their love for music – especially Christian music and enjoyed singing duets for religious gatherings. They were involved in the choir at First Christian Church. Later, Bob and three other men formed a quartet called the Revelators. The Lexington Christian Church was needing help with music, so Bob and Wilma went to help a few years ago. Wilma played piano and Bob was elder worship leader until recently.

The Masonic Lodge at Lexington has been special for Bob who has held several offices. He was so happy to see it grow.

His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Wilma, a son, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous cousins.

Memorial gifts may be for the Lexington Christian Church or the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Lexington Christian Church with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Lexington Cemetery.
