Ricky Lee Fleetwood, 71, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 13, 2025 after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Ricky was born on July 6, 1953 in Bedford, Indiana. He spent his childhood growing up on a Polled Hereford cattle farm in Clear Spring, Indiana. While growing up, Ricky enjoyed playing basketball and showing his cows as a 4-H member at the Jackson County Fair. Ricky graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1971. He then went on to attend the University of Evansville, where he was a fraternity member of the Iota Mu Zeta chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha.
Ricky spent his career as a blue collar man who was known as a jack of all trades. Ricky was very witty and creative which led him to have a variety of hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed woodworking and creating pieces for his family and friends. He was able to design and construct many inventions, such as a homemade glass cutter to help build wine bottle lamps. You could often find him watching Indiana University and Pacers basketball or listening to music, especially The Beatles. Ricky was also a big fan of watching NASCAR and dirt track racing. He was known to often discuss and debate politics and current events.
Ricky spent a lot of time playing cards, always having a deck near him. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Although Ricky had a lot of hobbies, he will be remembered most as someone who brought life to the party, could crack a joke and laugh with anyone, and who would give the shirt off his back to anyone that asked.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Harold ‘Cocky’ Fleetwood. He is survived and missed by his wife Cheryl Fleetwood of Brownstown; his dog, Oliver; his mother, Mary Jane Fleetwood of Brownstown; his siblings, Debbie (Jerry) Jackson of Brownstown, Marty (Juli) Fleetwood of Brownstown, and Pam Fleetwood of Brownstown; his children, Chris (Shawn) Busby of Seymour, Erika King of Brownstown, Lindsay Fleetwood of Brownstown, and Ian (Allison) Wheeler of Brownstown; his grandchildren, Hannah Busby, Kylee Nowling, Madelyn Busby, Lauren King, Graeme Hehman, Addison King, Zane Wheeler, and Delanie Wheeler.
Ricky is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ricky will also be missed by many friends whom he considered to be family.
