Regina Mae Cornelius, age 91, of Underwood, Indiana, was born on February 6, 1931 in Davidson, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Hazel (Russel) Donnoe and was a graduate of Henryville High School. She married Carl E. Cornelius, Sr. and this union was blessed with four children: Carl Jr., Sharrin, Monique, and Cherie. She was a devoted army wife and worked at the Army Quarter Master Depot repairing parachutes. She was also a former employee of the old Gladstein's Department Store in Scottsburg, Indiana, the Scottsburg Curtain Factory, the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Indiana, S & T Industries in Jeffersonville, and was a homemaker throughout her life.
In her spare time, she enjoyed making baskets, gardening and canning vegetables, cooking, sowing and making clothes for her children, volunteering with the Red Cross, and was a certified prayer warrior for her family and friends. She was a member of World Outreach for Christ in Scottsburg, the Widow's Tea Group, and the Sonshiners Bible Study Group. Mrs. Cornelius passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
Her life will be cherished by her children: Carl E. Cornelius, Jr. (Kathy) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Sharrin R. Hisle (James) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Monique C. Rose (Kenneth) of Underwood, and Cherie L. Cornelius of Underwood; her grandchildren: Heather Dobat (Patrick), Kori Heller (Mark), Matthew Cornelius, Jeffrey Allen (Gina), Joseph Allen (Gretchen), Christopher Rose (Libby), Katherine Rose, Michelle Sherrill, and Julia Sherrill-Hobbs; and her great grandchildren: Eden, Anja, Andrew, Kathrine, Logan, Shelby, Emma, Avery, Madison, Evi, Sophie, Mileigh, Caden, Juliette, Robert, Hunter, and Brodie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Cornelius, Sr. who passed away on November 4, 1987; and her sister, Carolyn A. Owens who passed away on July 28, 2008.
Reverend Jim Donahue will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Family and friends may visit from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Christensen Hoagland Funeral Home in Scottsburg and from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. She will be laid to rest at the Scottsburg Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be given to the Scottsburg Clearinghouse Food Pantry. Contributions can be made at the funeral home.
