Ralph Eugene Baughman passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022, at his residence. He was born July 1, 1928, to Thomas Curtis and Neva Elizabeth Callahan Baughman in Jackson County, the Mt. Zion Community. He was the tenth of eleven children. He attended Clearspring School and worked in the Maintenance Dept. of the Cummins Engine Co., where he retired in 1983 after 32 years and five months of employment. He married Inez Marie Reedy on March 1, 1949, and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2019.
Ralph was a member of the Cummins Diesel Workers’ Union and the NRA. He was also a member of the Mt. Zion Church, being baptized in a freshly dug pond on his property. He served as janitor there, also. He enjoyed cutting wood and fixing anything that needed fixing. In general, he was a “piddler”. His family was his greatest enjoyment. He loved feeding his fish, telling jokes and his cat, Dudley. He much preferred a hug to a handshake and was proud to be a blood donor. By 2018, he had given 26 ½ gallons. He also volunteered at Hoosier Christian Village.
