OCCUPATION: began his career with the Scottsburg IN City Police in 1970 serving to 1997, serving in the ranks of
patrolman, city’s first police detective, detective sergeant, detective lieutenant, lieutenant of the department and
Chief of the Scottsburg City Police Department under Mayor Zelma Gladden. He was known as “Officer Friendly” for children’s programs.
He retired as Director of Security with Hoosier Lottery serving 1997-2006.
He was the recipient of the R. Pat Stark & the Addie Maddox Awards which are two of the highest awards that Indiana F.O.P. bsetows on a member.
INTERESTS: Corvettes, Basketball, Golf and any sport; many friends, and retirement in Venice FL
EDUCATION: Graduate 1966 Scottsburg High School; graduate 1971 Indiana Police Academy.
MEMBERSHIPS: Held numerous offices in the local F.O.P; served 12 years as F.O.P. State Vice President & currently serving as the Chairman of the National Site Committee for F.O.P. His past memberships included the Amick-Baker-Kellems Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 156; Scottsburgh Masonic Lodge 572; Scottish Rite, Shrine Valley of Indianapolis, American Legion Scott Post 234, VFW Post 1083, and Scottsburg Lions Club. He was honored in the 1980-1981 edition of “Outstanding Young Men in America” as announced by the board of advisors of the annual publication.

Preceded in death by: his sister JoAnne Byrne 1955; father Ralph L Byrne Sr 1970; beloved mother Margaret Martin Byrne 2005.
