Penelopie "Penny" (Decker) Hutchison, a beacon of love and joy in the lives she touched, passed away on October 29, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on November 18, 1963, in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, Penny embodied the spirit of a lover of life—a beautiful prankster with a sarcastic wit that endeared her to many. Her laughter will echo in the hearts of all who knew her, a sweet reminder of her vibrant presence.
Penny devoted herself fully to her family, pouring her love and wisdom into each member she cherished. The focus of her heart was ever on her children and grandchildren, instilling values and encouragement as she watched them grow. Over the years, she became a mother figure not only to her own children but to many other kids who were fortunate enough to call her “mom” or “grandma.” It was this profound capacity for love that left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and the many lives she nurtured.
Her hobbies were simple yet profound; she relished moments spent fishing—sharing laughter and stories by the water's edge. Above all, raising her family and believing in people was what brought her the greatest joy. She was a fearless advocate of love, and her faith as a Baptist guided her actions, instilling a sense of peace within her and those around her.
Penny is mourned by her devoted husband of 44 years, Robert Hutchison Sr., and their loving children: Robert Hutchison Jr. of Scottsburg, Indiana; Angela Hutchison of Lexington, Kentucky; and Deanna Rose, alongside her husband Matthew, also of Scottsburg, Indiana; and Helen VanWey of Austin, Indiana. The sorrow of her passing is felt deeply by her eight grandchildren: Ashley Hutchison, Catherine Mata and her husband Dawson, Emily Rose, Elizabeth Hunt, Kaleb Hutchison, Spencer Robinson, George VanWey, and Rachael "Critter" Self, along with her precious great-granddaughter, Bella Mata. Penny’s legacy of love extends to her siblings, Melvin Decker, Justin Decker, Frankie Decker and his wife Brenda, Billie Jean Hatfield and her husband John, and Floeva Hatfield and her husband Harold, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward her spirit.
Penny has been reunited in rest with those who preceded her, including her father, Arvie Decker; her mother, Edna (Voyles) Decker; her son, Brad Hutchison; and beloved brothers Jerry Ray, Carl Voyles, and Kenny Decker, as well as daughter-in-law Jessica Noriega.
