Norman Gibson

June 27, 1925 — December 23, 2020

Norman Gibson, 95 of Brownstown, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Hoosier Christian Village where he had lived for 4 1/2 years. He was born in Medora on June 27, 1925, the son of the late Orrill Gibson and Dora Ellen Reynolds Gibson the youngest of seven children.
Norman is survived by one brother, Emil Gibson, five nieces Jennifer Gibson, Wilma Lee, Bonnie Combs, Joella Gallion and Marta Orwig, two nephews Roger Black and Ronnie Gibson and many great & great-great nieces and nephews.
Norman was a graduate from Clearspring High School with the class of 1943. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 as a 3rd class radio man during World War II in the South Pacific, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima where he saw the raising of the flag and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 181, Henderson, KY. He was a heavy equipment operator working in several states as well as Cambodia and Vietnam. In 2014 Norman had the opportunity to participate on the Honor Flight.
Norman was meticulous in every way, even keeping a daily diary. He was a world traveler, enjoying history and genealogy. He loved dancing, movies, and doting on his sister and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul Gibson, Lyman Gibson, Hubert Gibson, and Irvin Gibson and one sister Frieda Black Kiser and six nieces & six nephews.
Services will be conducted Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 12:00 noon at Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home, Brownstown, Indiana. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Proctor Cemetery/Dixon Chapel, Lawrence County, Indiana. All arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff of Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home in Brownstown. Due to Covid-19, we continue to follow CDC Guidelines which stipulate that face masks and social distancing are required at all times during visitations and services. In keeping with Governor Holcomb's order, we must limit those in attendance to 25 people.
Memorials may be made to the Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary or Proctor Cemetery through Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home.
