Nancy Reve (Reynolds) Engleking, age 77, a kind and gentle soul who touched the hearts of all who knew, passed away on January 7, 2025, at Schneck Medical Center. Born on April 6, 1947, in Medora, Indiana, Nancy's life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and cherished memories.
As a proud graduate of Hammond High School, class of 1964, Nancy stepped into adulthood with a spirit that would eventually envelop her community and family. She found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether she was in her garden, nurturing her beloved plants, or crafting beautiful jewelry with her own hands. Fishing was not merely a pastime for Nancy; it was a beloved escape, often shared with family who treasure the memories made by the water's edge. Her laughter frequently filled the air during spirited games of Arkansas Rummy, where friends and family would gather to relish both the challenge of the game and the warmth of each other’s company.
Her love for family was boundless, and it was in the embrace of her loved ones that she found her proudest accomplishments. Married for 21 years to her devoted husband, Kenneth Engleking Jr. of Seymour, Indiana, Nancy was the cornerstone of their home. She is survived by her son, Michael Conner (Laura) of Hammond, Indiana, and daughters, Melissa Spivey (Gary) of Conway, South Carolina, and Cynthia Vanek (Edward) of Schererville, Indiana. The laughter of eight grandchildren—Joshua Spivey, Edward Vanek Jr., Ashley Dixon, Brittany Withman, Tori Conner, Tabatha Conner, Nikki Conner, and Mitchell Conner—and the innocent giggles of five great-grandchildren, plus one on the way, filled her heart with joy and pride.
Though she leaves behind a loving family, Nancy is now reunited with those who preceded her in death. Her father, Clarence Reynolds, and her mother, Jesse Smith Reynolds, along with her brother Harold Reynolds and sisters Margie Thompson, Norma Boyd, and Betty Bennett, await her in eternal rest.
As we pause to remember Nancy Reve (Reynolds) Engleking, we celebrate her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness, a legacy that will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed, but her love, warmth, and the memories she gifted us will remain a constant source of comfort and inspiration.
