John Michael “Mike” Taylor Sr, age 71, a native of Scottsburg, Indiana and a resident of Underwood, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 8, 1950 to the late Phillip “Pete” Taylor and the late Lucille (Trowbridge) Taylor. Mike attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse in Underwood that he walked to from home. He told many stories of having to carry coal into the school in buckets to heat the building and going outside to use the outhouse. He graduated from Henryville High School in 1969 where he was definitely the class clown. Mike was hired right out of High School at American Saw and Tool in Louisville, Kentucky where he was employed for 17 years. He was a man of all trades and worked at several places until his retirement from New Hope Services. After retirement, he enjoyed tending to Taylor’s Poor Farm at the homeplace he shared with his beloved wife of 25 years, Barbara Cox Taylor. Mike loved riding horses, was past President of the Scott County Sheriff’s Posse and was a former member of the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department. He will forever be remembered as a dependable, hard working man that loved people and his family very much. He was a firm believer in God and Country. He was a wealth of knowledge and was the “family fixer”. He was a big kid at heart and never grew up, taking every chance he could to laugh and make others happy. Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Barbara (Cox) Taylor of Underwood, Indiana, one son, John Michael Taylor II and his wife Hannah of Scottsburg, Indiana.
