Meredith Edgar Payne

Meredith Edgar Payne, age 82 of Freetown, passed away on FridayJanuary 29, 2016 at his residence. Born March 11, 1935, in Columbus Indiana, he was the son of Oakley Payne and Ada (Garrett) Barton.

Mr. Payne was a Veteran having retired from the US Navy and Air National Guard and later retiring Enkei America. He was a member of Our Lady of Providence Catholic Church in Brownstown. Meredith enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, hiking and hunting for Ginseng.

Survivors include his wife Mary Rosemond (Sanders) Payne whom he married October 24, 1953 in Jeffersonville; two sons Meredith Joseph Payne of North Vernon and Mark Stephen Payne and wife Tabitha of Seymour; two daughter Margaret Agnes Waggoner and husband Lonnie of North Vernon and Melody Ruth Jones of Freetown; two sisters, Janice White of Columbus and Lyn Hamilton of Seymour; two brothers, Tom Van Arsdale of North Vernon and Robert Lee “Bobbie” of Indiana; seventeen grandchildren, Johnny Payne, Jeremy Payne, Michael Payne, Melissa Stevens, Melina Stevens, Melanie Jones, Michael Waggoner, Matthew Waggoner, Lonnie Waggoner, Mara Payne, Sariah Payne, Marcus Payne, Isaac Payne, Lathaneil Payne, Gregory Jones Jr., Joshua Jones and Angel Jones; seventeen great-grandchildren Zachary, Briar, Nicholas, Antonio, Evelyn, Dawson, Arabella, Jasmine, Rubi, Sage, Samantha, Tayden, Kaitlyn, Kennedy, Andrew and Gavin; six great-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cadrian, Naylene, Matthew, Brittany and Timmy and several nieces and nephews.

Meredith was preceded in death by his parents his daughter, Michaelle Lyn Jones; one sister Margaret Stewart and one great-granddaughter Hayley Riggs.

A service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday February 3, 2016 at the Woodlawn Freetown Funeral Chapel 4595 W. First Street Freetown, Indiana 47235. Visitation will be on Wednesday from12:00pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Meredith E. Payne Memorial Fund care of the funeral home.
