Mattie H. Wheeler

Mattie H. Wheeler age 80 of Seymour, was called to God’s loving arms at 6:20pm on May 7, 2016 at her home. Born January 27, 1936 in Hare, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Simon and Zema (Barnett) Delph. Mattie was a loving wife of 62 years to Billy Wheeler, whom she married on December 19, 1953 in Jennings County, Indiana where Billy’s Uncle Rev. Everett Chandler performed the ceremony.

Mattie was retired having spent over 20 years serving at Hulda’s Airport Café. She loved her flowers, reading, working crossword puzzles, knitting and writing poetry and songs.

She is survived by her husband Billy; children, Terry Lynn (Bob) Ayers, Pamela (Rick) Grant, Billy D. (Carole) Wheeler and Ronald Lee Wheeler all of Seymour. Mattie also leaves behind three brothers, Walter (Jean) Delph, Lonnie Delph and Larry Delph as well as one sister, Joyce Barnard; grandchildren, Michelle Reyes, Scott Howell, Jeremy Wheeler, Seth Weimer, Andy Weimer, Alicia Bogard and Amber Lynn Lancaster; Mattie also had 7 step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Leroy, Arlie V, Junior and Vada; nephews, Danny Ray Delph, Harold Edward Delph and Travis Barnard.

Rev. Rick Grant will conduct funeral services at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 11th at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and then on Wednesday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Acme Cemetery.
