Martha Mae (Chambliss) Ponder

Martha Mae (Chambliss) Ponder, age 77, a native of Evansville, Indiana and a resident of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at her residence. She was born on July 11, 1946 to the late Raymond Chambliss and the late Pauline (Alexander) Trail and Raymond Trail, her step father that loved her as his very own. She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints. She was a strong willed lady with a smile that lit the room. She was bigger than life, loving, caring, always going and never stopping. Martha enjoyed baking, especially making and decorating cakes, making crafts and being a hostess to those she was serving. She loved to cook and always made more than enough for others. Service was a huge part of her life, at one point, with her husband, they went to San Diego to serve on a mission trip to encourage and uplift the military men and women stationed there.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard Ponder and his wife Mary of Scottsburg, Indiana and Nathan Ponder and his wife Candace of Georgia. Two daughters, Dora Fisher and her husband Mark of Utah and Tammy Riley and her partner, Donnie Lee of Austin, Indiana. Four brothers, Henry Trail and his wife Brenda of Evansville, Indiana, Bobbie Trail and his wife Libby of Evansville, Indiana and Danny Trail of Evansville, Indiana and Donny Chambliss of Nashville, Tennessee. Four sisters, Betty Jarvis and her husband Bob of Evansville, Indiana, Nancy Miles and her husband David of Evansville, Indiana, Vicki Wynn and her husband Jerry of Evansville, Indiana and Tina Vorbeck and her husband John of Corydon, Kentucky. Fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary Wayne Ponder and one sister, Doris Williams.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 6:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Ewing Cemetery in Ewing, Illinois.
