Martha Gene Shelton-Harrell, age 87 of Brownstown, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Hoosier Christian Village. She was born August 19, 1928 in Conway, Arkansas to William Michael and Susan (Turner) Banks. In August of 1942, she married William C. Shelton who passed on December 10, 1979. She then married Rev. Elza Michaels who passed in 1989 and after he passed, married James Harrell who passed in 2003.
Martha Gene was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Brownstown where she enjoyed being a beacon to influence young people. She had worked at EMC Plastics in Medora. She enjoyed cooking. At Hoosier Christian Village, she had many friends with both the residents and the staff.
Survivors include her son James (Lisa Ann Stahl) Shelton; brothers, Louis (Wilma Kay) Banks of Millport, Joseph Banks of Columbus, Frederick Paul Banks, Elgin, IL and William David “Bill” Banks of Seymour; grandchildren, Ronald Wesley, James Robert, William Andrew, Mary Jo, Martha, Melissa, Rebecca, Amy Jo, Ashley, Angela and Vera. Martha Gene also had several great grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; son, Ronald Shelton; daughters, Zella Sue Lebline and Martha Ann Shelton; sisters, Donna Dean and Geraldine Banks and Gladys Haines.
Rev. Ron Cox will conduct a funeral service at First Pentecostal Church in Brownstown at 1:00pm Friday. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre and from 11:00am on Friday until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
