Marjorie Alice (Dobbs) Crum, age 97, a beloved figure in the heart of Scottsburg, Indiana, gracefully departed this world on October 20, 2024, at Baptist Health in New Albany, Indiana. Born on March 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Inza (Carter) Dobbs.
Marjorie dedicated over 35 years of her life to serving as the County Birth and Death Registrar in Scott County, becoming a trusted steward of the community during times of both joy and sorrow. Her meticulous nature and passionate commitment left a lasting imprint on the lives of countless families she touched through this role.
A lifelong member of Scottsburg First Christian Church, Marjorie was a steadfast presence who lent her musical gifts to the congregation for many years. As the church organist, she painted the air with resonant hymns, nurturing the spirit of worship with her delicate touch. Her voice harmonized with that of the choir, enriching the lives of all who listened. Additionally, she served as the church secretary, weaving her organizational prowess with her deeply rooted faith.
An educational journey that began when she graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1945 led her to study art at Indiana University Southeast, reflecting her enduring love for creativity. Marjorie's passion for painting was not just a pastime; it was an extension of her soul, a canvas upon which her vibrant personality flourished.
Marjorie's zest for life also found expression in her hobbies. An avid traveler, she embraced the world with open arms, her suitcase packed with dreams waiting to unfold. She was a championship bowler with the Scottsburg Bowling League, where laughter and friendly competition created bonds of friendship that would last a lifetime. Those who knew her marveled at her skill, both on the lanes and at home, where she sewed beautiful clothes for her daughters as they grew up, imbuing each stitch with love.
She is survived by her cherished daughters, JoAnne C. Juett and her husband Samuel of Indianapolis, and LuAnne Trippodo and her husband Joe of Cuba. Marjorie's legacy shines brightly through her three grandchildren: Jarred Juett, Jacqueline Juett, and Niccolo Trippodo, alongside her adored great-grandchild, Morgan Durkin.
Reunited now with her beloved husband of 30 years, Joseph Crum, and her sister Peg Shirley, Marjorie's spirit finds solace among the stars, where the echoes of her laughter and love continue to resonate. The indelible mark she left on this world is a testament to her hard work, devotion, and an unquenchable thirst for learning.
