Lonnie Ray Delph, age 76 of Brownstown, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in Brownstown. Born July 19, 1940 in East Bernstadt, KY, he was the son of Simon and Zema (Barnett) Delph, Sr. On February 8, 1986 in Laurel County, Kentucky, Lonnie married JoAnne Kae Woodley and she passed on November 13, 2013.
He was retired from the Golden Foundry in Columbus. Lonnie was an associate member of the Freetown Church of the Nazarene where he gave his life to the Lord. One of his passions was dirt track racing and visited many tracks across the United States. Lonnie was at the Brownstown Speedway each and every Saturday night. He was at the track well before the gates opened and greeted most of the staff upon their arrival. The speedway thought of Lonnie not just as a fan, but as a member of the Brownstown Speedway Family.
Lonnie was also an avid UK Basketball fan and in his earlier years, enjoyed coon hunting. Every morning, McDonalds in Brownstown was his stopping off place for coffee with the guys. He was always on the go and would visit many of his family members every day. He was a protector and loved his kids, grandkids, family and friends and church very much.
Survivors include his children, Tressa Williams, Judy (Richard) Kriete, Jody (Michael) Allman, Scott Delph, Natalie Phillips, Abbie (Brad) Frank, Jolinda Phillips, Nathan Gasaway, Aaron Gasaway, Jason (Susanti) Gasaway, Shaun (Gina) Gasaway and Shannon (Courtney) Gasaway; siblings, Joyce Barnard, Walter Delph and Larry Delph and brother in law, Bill Wheeler. Lonnie also leaves behind 38 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings, Mattie Wheeler, Arlie Delph, and Simon Delph, Jr., Vayda Delph and Leroy Delph; sister-in-law Jean Delph; brother-in-law, Hershall Barnard; and three nephews.
