Leta Madalyn Mann (nee Cunningham), 96, of Scottsburg, Indiana Passed away peacefully at her home on January 26 2023, with family by her side.

She was born on January 7 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to William James Cunningham and Edith Carolyn Cunningham (nee Easley). She received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1949, where she later also earned a master’s degree. While at the university she met her future husband, Bill D Mann. They were married in June 1949. Together they had five children.

Leta and Bill moved to Scottsburg in 1959, where they became active members of the community, with Bill establishing a family dentistry practice and Leta working as a teacher at Scottsburg Elementary for many years.

Leta was passionate about education, serving on the Scottsburg Library Council and teaching adult literacy in her retirement. She was praised by community members and former students for her wisdom, kindness, and positivity.

Preceded in death by her husband, as well as her parents and older brother, Richard Cunningham, survivors include her sister, Patricia King (nee Cunningham) of Indianapolis, IN; sons Gary Mann (Darrell) of Sherman Oaks, CA, Eric Mann, and Steven Mann of Plant City, FL; daughters Susan Graham (nee Mann) of Roseburg, OR and Kathryn Heller (nee Mann) of Scottsburg. She also will be missed by her nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service is planned to be held at a later date.
