Leslie E. “Les” Wright, age 72 of Madison, passed away on Sunday, November 10th at the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville. Born January 12, 1941 in Carrollton, KY, he was the son of Walter L. and Mary E. (Smith) Wright. On June 4, 1966, he married Judy Pennington. Les was a 21 year veteran of the Madison Police Department where he served as a Lieutenant Detective and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to the police department, Les had worked at the Conn Organ Corporation where he met Judy. He also served as a repair technician for Shorts TV and Sears for a number of years. Les attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the F.O.P Lodge #128, American Legion Post #9 and the Moose Lodge. He graduated from Vevay High School in 1959 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1968. An avid car collector, Les enjoyed building classic cars and was a former member of the Classic Auto Club of Madison. He enjoyed bowling, camping and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Judy; his mother Mary; three children, Kelly (Steve) Seel, Kathy (Scott) Lynch and Leslie “Gus” (Shelli) Wright; a brother, Michael (Diane) Wright; a sister, Patsy Newland; six grandchildren, Jenna Seel, J.D. Seel, Max Lynch, Annie Lynch, Lucy Lynch and Lydia Wright and several nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Rosie Magner and a nephew Curtis Wright. Visitation for Les will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and from 12:00 noon until time of service at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive. Pastor Brian Teater will conduct services at the funeral home on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Indiana Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Madison. The Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #9 will conduct military graveside services. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #128 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30pm Wednesday at the Vail Funeral Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Curtis Wright Scholarship Foundation care of the Jefferson County Community Foundation, Jacob Vogel Memorial Fund care of the Ripley County Community Foundation or to the F.O.P.
