Leona Horn, age 92, a gentle soul whose heart enveloped those around her, was born on December 29, 1931, in the quaint town of Scottsburg, Indiana. She departed this world on November 10, 2024, in the same community she cherished, surrounded by the family she loved so much. Leona life, woven together with kindness and love, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Graduating in 1950 from Scottsburg High School, Leona harnessed her skills as a dedicated law firm secretary in her hometown. Her career was marked by unwavering commitment, but it was her role within her family that defined her essence. For over 62 years, she shared her life with her beloved husband, Ralph Horn, whose memory remains treasured among those who mourn her loss. Leona was a devoted mother to Susan Calloway and her husband Bill, Linda Mills and her husband Jeff, and her son Bill Horn, all of Scottsburg, Indiana. Her legacy lives on through her five grandchildren: Amy Keller, Laura Hart, Brent Calloway, Amanda Bruck, and Brandy Horn, each of whom was cherished and adored beyond measure. She also adored her eight great grandchildren.
As a longtime member of the Vienna Baptist Church, Leona’s spiritual dedication sustained her during both trials and triumphs. For more than 50 years, she was an integral part of this warm community, demonstrating her profound belief in nurturing connections with others. Additionally, as a former member of the V & E Homemakers Club, her commitment to service and fellowship resonated deeply in the lives she touched.
Leona’s personality was an embodiment of grace; she was gentle, quiet, kind-hearted, happy, and loving—a beacon of support for her family. Her proudest accomplishments were simple yet profound; her family was her world. She lived her life fervently for them, endlessly supportive, pouring her love into every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
Leona's journey, however, was not without sorrow. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harshel Whitehead and Rose (Whitlatch) Whitehead, her brother, Lionel Whitehead, and her great-grandson, Jack Hart. Each of these losses wove a thread of resilience into the tapestry of her life, drawing her family closer together.
A graveside service to celebrate Leona's remarkable life is scheduled for November 14, 2024, at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana, beginning at 10:00 a.m..
In the embrace of her cherished family, Leona Horn leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support, forever etched in the hearts of those she tenderly nurtured.
