L.D. Cox, age 90, passed away July 7, 2018 at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, IN.
He was named “L.D.” by his parents, Odie Prince and Edna Green Cox. No one knows why they selected this name, but L.D. liked to refer to himself as “Little Darlin”.
He was a man of wit, always with a story to tell at least once.
He was born just before the Great Depression on July 4, 1928 in the Mississippi Delta. He always found himself among friends, somehow being right in the middle of whatever was brewing at the time.
L.D. served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the Asian theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1949.
He married Miriam Patterson in December of 1955 and they raised their 3 sons together in the Memphis, TN area until their separation in 1977. They remained friends over the years even up to Miriam’s death in 2016.
He had a total of 5 sons, all of which he was very proud. In later years, he called them on a weekly basis and many times daily.
He moved to Brownstown in 2011, living next door to his church where he had a life changing experience. He declared that he had lived for the old devil all his life but now his heart belongs to Jesus.
There are many who have gone to Glory before him that will be surprised when he shows up, but that was L.D., full of surprises.
L.D. was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Brownstown. He enjoyed Ole Miss football and was a Cardinal baseball fan. He enjoyed watching westerns including Bonanza and Gunsmoke. He also had grown to like Family Feud.
L.D. is survived by sons, Don (Beverly) Cox, Ron (Jackie) Cox, Byron (Michelle) Cox and a sister, Mary Evelyn Chambers. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three on the way, and one great- great- grandchild.
