Justin Durand Luckey, a vibrant spirit whose laughter could light up any room, was born on April 26, 1989, in Griffin, Georgia. He left this world too soon, departing from his residence on November 22, 2024, at the age of 35. His legacy, rich with warmth and love, will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
He was a 2010 graduate of Liberty Christian Academy, a place that nurtured his boundless energy and spirited personality. Known for his huge heart and infectious enthusiasm, he was a beacon of joy. Dale Carnegie once said that a smile is a sign of strength, and Justin embodied this with his instantly recognizable grin. His motto, “Be good, if not, be good at it,” reflected a whimsical approach to life and an undeniable charm that drew people towards him. He had a gift for making everyone feel special, often greeted with a hug that felt like home.
Beyond his endearing personality, Justin found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished moments spent fishing, under the vast sky, feeling the cool breeze as he cast his line into tranquil waters. Playing video games was another passion, providing him with countless hours of adventure and fostered connections with friends and family. He also reveled in the thrill of the outdoors, often riding four-wheelers and exploring the beauty around him—each ride filled with the promise of new adventures and memories waiting to be made. He loved battle dancing and would break out when he would hear a song.
Justin’s family was his world, anchored by the love he shared with his daughters, Kadence and Kyhanne Luckey of North Vernon, Indiana. The mother of his beloved daughters, Erica Bannister of North Vernon. They were the sunshine in his life, motivating him to embrace every moment with fervor and zeal. His father, Daniel Luckey, and stepmother Marjorie of Seymour, Indiana. He shared an unbreakable bond with his siblings: Randy Murphy of Freetown, Indiana, Timothy Rhodes and Michael Rhodes of Seymour, Indiana (his step-brothers), and his sisters—Danielle Cobb and her husband James of Illinois, Deanna Byrne and her husband Aaron of Columbus, Indiana, Shauna Nolte, and Tami Sansbury, both of Colorado. Alongside them stood his loving step-sister, Buffie Mitchell of Seymour, Indiana. He was exalted and beloved by his aunts, uncles, and cousins who appreciated his exuberance and enduring spirit.
His presence, however, felt incomplete without the embrace of those who passed before him—his mother, Debra Winslow Luckey, and his siblings, Andrea Luckey and Jeremiah Luckey. Their memories live on through the stories shared and the love that continues to bind the family together.
As we remember Justin, let us celebrate him on December 10, 2024, at Christensen Family Funeral Home in Seymour, Indiana.
