Joseph H. “JH” Hubbard, 89 of Scottsburg, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019. He was born in Austin, Indiana, on February 4, 1930, the son of the late Clarence L. and Edna M. (Scott) Hubbard.
He married Jo Hercules on April 21, 1950, then married America Draughn (Merc) on December 15, 1984, and she preceded him in death May 17, 1991. He married Della Hall, and they were later divorced.
Joe graduated from Austin High School in 1948. He then served in the 8th Infantry Division of the United States Army, did basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, then went on to Fort Hood, Texas. He left Fort Hood to serve a year overseas in Germany and was there when Jimmy was born. He entered active service February 17, 1954, until he was honorably discharged February 26, 1960. He was a charter member of the Austin Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Austin Christian Church. His last job was working at the Jay C Store in Brownstown until his retirement in 2005. Joe enjoyed woodworking and gospel concerts.
He is survived by his children, Janet L. Clahan and James L. (Janet) Hubbard; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, Indiana. Burial will follow at Austin Cemetery with full military graveside rites. Friends and family may call at Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home in Brownstown on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and at Buchanan Funeral Home on Wednesday after 11:00 am until time of service.
Memorials may be made to the Austin Volunteer Fire Department or Austin Christian Church.
