Jerry Lee Wheeler, age 89, a lifelong resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on January 29, 1933 to the late Leland Wheeler and the late Anna (Morgan) Wheeler. Jerry graduated from Shields High School in 1951 where he was a member of the Owls Track Team and the Shields Concert Choir. On January 18, 1952 he married the love of his life, Delores A. Jones and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He was a lifelong member of The Point Church where he was an active choir member and soloist for over 40 years. He was a 24 year member of International Union and was a retired Journeyman Millwright and Industrial Electrician. He was retired from Arvin Industries Inc. and Cummins Engine Co. Inc.
Jerry will forever be remembered as an independent, firm man that loved history, ancestry and Native American artifacts. He enjoyed quail hunting, trapping, fishing, and duck hunting. Part of his love for the outdoors included shooting clays, bird dogs, and collecting guns and arrowheads. Jerry never waivered in his faith, he never complained and had a deep trust in a God that would see him through whatever he faced. Scripture says in II Timothy 4:7-8 7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He is survived by his one daughter, Jerri Burbrink (Curt) of Columbus, Indiana and three sons, Royd Wheeler (Lisa) of Seymour, Indiana, Robin Wheeler (Cathy) of Seymour, Indiana and Roger Wheeler and his wife (Karol) of Seymour, Indiana. Seven grandchildren, Justin Burbrink (Laura), Amanda Montgomery (Ryan), Joel Burbrink (Rebecca), Ryan Wheeler, Alex Wheeler (Sarah), Christopher Wheeler (Stephen) and Mahala Maxie (Michael) and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two grandsons, Rex. A Wheeler and Jerad L. Burbrink and one son, Rex D. Wheeler.
