Jan Wilkerson, 84, of Scottsburg IN, passed away February 9 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family. Jan was born on May 4, 1936 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She married her loving husband, Don Wilkerson on September 10, 1955 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. To this marriage was born a daughter, Debra J. Wilkerson Garrett. Their 65 year marriage was truly the definition of love and faithfulness to God, each other and family. They moved to Scottsburg, Indiana in 1959 when Don took a position to open Scott Memorial Hospital.
Jan was active in the Scott County Homemakers Association serving as a member and a District Representative. She was an avid cook and baker. Because of her love for baking and cooking, several of her recipes appeared in the local paper. Jan passed her love for baking to her daughter and family. She was also active in the Business and Professional Women’s Association. She was an avid reader and writer.
Jan was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana where she held many ministry positions but most notably served as the church organist. She and her husband spent a month on the mission field in San Luis, Colorado. She was named an Honorary Member of the Board of National Missions of The Presbyterian Church in the United States of America.
Jan loved to travel with her husband and family and their adventures took them many places. They visited 47 states and D. C., as well as Canada and the Bahamas. She journaled extensively about their adventures. Their love of Gatlinburg, TN and the Smoky Mountains was passed along to their daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Don, daughter Debra Wilkerson Garrett and husband Tom; granddaughter Jaclyn Tweedy and husband Josiah; grandson Andrew Garrett and fiancé Sidney Caseltine; 4 great grandchildren Madelynn, Nathan, Samuel, and Silas Tweedy; sister Sandra Lamb and companion Von; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Jean Wilkerson; sister-in-law Gloria Conner; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jan was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lamb and Isabel Staber Lamb.
