James W. "Bill" Ritter

James W. “Bill” Ritter, 84, of Indianapolis IN, died Thursday, April 21 2011 at his residence. He was born April 9 1927 in Scottsburg IN to Henry & Anna Mae West Ritter who preceded him in death along with his sisters Sarah Ritter & Martha Boswell and brothers Thomas F Ritter & Henry Edwin Ritter. Bill was a retired teacher, coach & counselor for Indianapolis Public Schools for 37 years. After retirement he continued to coach basketball at I.U.P.U.I and for U.S.I.S. Bill was a veteran of the armed services. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, American Legion Post 500, Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council, F.C.A. and Past President of the I.R.T.A. Inductee and Board Member Emeritus in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Purdue University and a member of T.K.E. Fraternity. He received his Masters from Butler University. He is survived by his wife Lydia Johnson Ritter; children Lisa Dovey (Paul), Bob Ritter (Mary Bomar), Julie Holmes (J) & William Ritter (Nancy); grandchildren Julianna Holmes, Jennifer Shedd (Carl) & Joshua Holmes and great grandchildren Connor & Collin Shedd; brother Paul M Ritter (Ruby). . Visitation: 4 PM - 8 PM. Wednesday, April 27 2011 & 9:30 AM - 10 AM Thursday at Stewart & Hoagland Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 11 AM, Thurday, April 28 2011 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg IN with Father Don Buchanan officiating and burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.
