James H. “Jimmy” Cornett, age 65 of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at his residence. Born November 28, 1948 in Milan, Indiana, he was the son of Ransom and Cleat Mae (Homan) Cornett who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by death by a brother-in-law, James R. Brosius on December 11, 2013. Mr. Cornett was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal w/1*, Meritorious Mast, National Defense Medal and the Rifle Marksman Badge. He was a member of the American Legion Post #9 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1969. Survivors include a sister, Carol Cornett Brosius of Sherrodsville, OH; a niece, Renae Dudley; a nephew, Travis Faulkner; two great-nieces, Natalie Hoover and Madison Paige Hoover; two great-great-nephews, Hunter Hoover and Aiden Hoover. The Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #9 will conduct military services at 11:00am on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel with inurnment to follow.
