A Tribute to our Mother: Iva Rose Garriott

Our dear Mother went peacefully home, April 25 2018, to be with the Lord, at her daughter, Adrienne’s home, in Lowell Indiana. She was in hospice for 21 months, and Adrienne was blessed to hold her hand and to be with her and hospice.  She truly was a Proverbs 31:10-31 woman. We were very blessed to have a Christ; and a Mom & Dad who loved the Lord and us. At age 12 she accepted Him into her heart and served Him all of her life.  Her heart was always in Scottsburg, Indiana, but now her real home is in Heaven.  She was small, but a strong lady, who loved her family. She always cared about others.  Mom loved children, books, trees, animals & loved singing hymns. She raised chickens & turkeys when younger.  Mom was also the BEST COOK EVER!   It seemed like everything she made was good! She loved making angel food cake by scratch & sandwich spreads, etc.  She & Dad worked hard on the farm and raised good crops and gardens, etc. She had a missionary’s heart & taught the “country kids”, etc., in the neighborhood about Jesus with her flannel graph and ‘wienie’ roasts.  Mom always said “God wanted her to be a ‘helpmate’ “ to our precious dad, Orville, and was a great mother and wife.  Mom had many nieces & nephews that loved her as an aunt, and five grandchildren; Ryan, Marc, Dale Jr., Elijah, & Rebekah; and two great grandchildren; Mack & Huck.  Mom & her daughters sang & Dad played the guitar in nursing homes and churches. She loved to sing hymns.  She was a great homemaker, but when we got older in school she went back to work. Mom worked at a chicken store & lifted 50 lbs. of feed, then an ammunition factory in southern Indiana; was a waitress before marriage, & memorized what everyone needed and seemed to always get it right. She really loved working at the county clerk’s office in the Washington County Courthouse, Salem Indiana as a deputy clerk for 15 years.  Mom loved school & never missed one day her whole education. She loved Ms. Lorita, her favorite teacher. She would tell us she went to school sick many times, but still went.   Mom loved her own “Mother & Daddy”, as she would call them & missed them very much.  She had many experiences that the Lord helped her with. One incident in her life, was trying to get the holes connected on the plow to the tractor to pull it. She said she tried & tried & just had to say.. ”Lord, please help me to get these holes even”, and before her very eyes, she saw the holes move & line up & the Lord did help her.  Another very special incident occurred when dad was plowing in the field, & we girls were very young; Barb saw something bright in the sky, and called to us to hurry & come see it. We three girls & mom saw, & it was hard to believe, but there was a beautiful figure in the sky that looked like Jesus or an angel. His arms were open wide, & He was holding a bright light in His hand, & wore a flowing robe, & mom said, “Oh, my mother just died”; because her mother had been ill at that time, our mom sensed with sadness she would never see her mother again when her mother traveled, by plane, to Missouri with the other daughter Millie. It seemed God gave comfort to our mom because she was so close to her own mother, and He gave her assurance everything would be alright. We will never forget that experience, & the figure in the sky vanished slowly as the light got brighter with the sun shining through it. As we all are special to God—our mother especially had a special place in her heart for God.  Mom had a lot of health issues, through the years, but we never seemed to hear her complain.  Dad & Mom always wanted to share the gleanings of their crops with people & God really blessed them for that. They were so giving & loving.  Mom seemed to “love life” & have a “strong constitution to live”, as we heard someone say one time.  Our precious Mother & Grandmother, will be deeply missed & loved by her family & friends & our love for her will never end & will be in our hearts forever.

We love you, Mom, with all of our hearts.   Daughters: Barbara, Janet, Adrienne
