Irene W. Smith, age 78 of Seymour, passed away at 12:10a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, at Schneck Medical Center. Born December 30, 1933 in California, she was the daughter of Frank and Laurene (Adams) Brower. In 1954 at Reno, N.V., Irene married Harley Hill, Jr. He preceded her in death in 1987. On September 27, 2003, she married Randolph "Smitty" Smith in Seymour. Retired, Irene worked for the phone company as an operator and also in the office. She had been a member of Seymour First Nazarene where she was active in the Fellowship Sunday School class, Prime Timers group and served the church as a counter. Irene loved to play cards and especially loved to go shopping. Survivors include her husband, Smitty; 4 daughters, Rhonda (Jerry) Sutherland of Seymour, Patty (Mike) Cockerham of Seymour, Sherry (Clarence) Dowling of Paris Crossing, and Cindy (James) Campbell of Memphis, IN.; 2 sons, Thomas (Peggy) Hill of Scottsburg and Randolph (Mary) Smith III of Seymour. 10 grandchildren, Chadd (Amy) Sutherland, Matt (Tara) Sutherland, Thomas (Angela) Hill Jr., Kelsey Hill, R.J. (Kelly) Smith, Adam Smith, B.J. (Amy) Cockerham, Chad (Renae) Cockerham, Dustin (Mary) Dowling and Shawn Israel; Irene was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Ralph (Jeanne) Brower, John (Wanda) Brower and Fred Brower; also 1 sister, Pat Murphy. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harley and a brother Frank Brower. Pastor Garrett Mills will conduct funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 11th at Seymour First Nazarene at 311 Myers Street in Seymour. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and from 9:00am until service time Friday. Burial will follow services at Riverview Cemetery.
