Helen Marie Vaughn

January 19, 1923 — July 1, 2016

Helen Marie Williams-Wheeler-Vaughn, age 93 of Seymour, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Lutheran Community Home surrounded by her family. Born January 19, 1923 in Huron, Indiana, she was the daughter of Clyde and Clenna (Zollars) Williams. In 1944, Helen married William Emerson Wheeler and he passed in 1965. In 1966, Helen married Robert Jerome Vaughn and he passed in 2000.

Before retiring, Helen worked at H.O. Canfield and then at Seymour Pharmaceuticals. Helen was a faithful member of The Point Nazarene Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Helen taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She was recognized with a distinguished service award for her lifetime of service to the church. Many will remember her as a prayer warrior. She made it her mission to pray for the sick and dying, leading them to Christ. Helen was a talented writer who was often asked to write for special occasions at her church and Sunday school class. She served as President of the Ambassador Sunday School Class for many years. Helen enjoyed writing poems, reading, shopping and collecting bluebirds. Very special to her was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Mona (Glen O.) Bode, Shirley (Lloyd) Hudson, Rebecca (Ty) Johnson, Susan (Jerry) Scott, Anne (Tim) Carpenter, and Jeffrey Robert Vaughn; grandkids, Kimberly (Mike) Bode-Eder, Kathleen (Allen) Bode-Hoover, Jennifer (John) Hunnicutt, Jason Hudson, Ben (Pam) Hudson, Brad A. (Allison) Johnson, Kiley (Bradley) Johnson Norris, Angela Scott, Kristie (Tim) Newell, Tammy (Harley) Jackson, Andrew (Brittany) Carpenter, Amanda (Chris) Walker, Aaron (Brittany) Vaughn and Robert Larry Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Logan Eder, Glen Austin Eder, Cole Eder, Klancy Hoover, Kaylor Hoover, Bode James Hoover, Cara Blocker, Kayla Hunnicutt, Mitchell Hunnicutt, Jase Hunnicutt, Katlyn Hudson, Jenna Hudson, Haylee Hudson, Chloe Hudson, Will Hudson, Olivia Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Avery Johnson, Mac Johnson, Luke Johnson, Emerson Scott, Caden Newell, Alex Newell, Cole Carpenter, Noah Carpenter, Harper Carpenter, Jaylen Carpenter, Madison Carpenter, Jackson Carpenter, Kameron Jackson, Harlen Jackson, Carter Jackson, Brinlee Jackson, Taylor Walker, Paige Walker, Eric Walker, Kelsie Walker, Mason Walker, Avery Walker and Zoey Susanne Vaughn; great-great grandchildren, Eli and Marley Blocker.

Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, William Wheeler and Robert Vaughn; parents; son, William Jason “Billy” Wheeler; son-in-law, Glen O. Bode; brother, Harold Williams; sisters, Leona Nicholson and Dorothy Jane Williams; grandparents, Siegal and Hattie (Tincher) Williams and Frederick & Alice (Haga) Zollars.

Pastors Steve Greene and Garrett Mills will conduct funeral services at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 6th at The Point at 311 Myers Street. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre. Burial will follow services at Riverview Cemetery. Memorials can be made at the funeral home to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Cancer Society or The Point.
