Harold Edward “Ed” Hofer Ll

April 13, 1957 — August 5, 2021

Harold Edward “Ed” Hofer ll, 64 of Greenwood, Indiana passed away at his home on Thursday, August 5, 2021 after a 14 month courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Ed was born on April 13, 1957 to the late Harold Edward Hofer and the late Maxine Lulu Hofer (Harmon). He and his 7 siblings grew up in Fayette, Indiana. Growing up with parents whom both had a passion for music, Ed learned how to play the guitar and he loved to pick up his guitar and play for hours. Bluegrass music was one of his favorite genres to play as he got older.

Ed married Dawn (Purkhiser) Hofer on August 20, 1977 and together they had two daughters, April (Hofer) Smith and Tiffany (Hofer) Thomas. He also had a son from a previous relationship, Richard “Jeremy” Hofer. Ed, Dawn and their daughters spent many weekends camping at various campgrounds and fishing together as a family. His love of camping and fishing never faded and he continued doing both until the day his brain tumor was discovered.

Ed drove a semi for most of his adult life, and he eventually moved on to driving a tanker, something he had promised his mom, Maxine, he would never do. He knew he could make more money driving a tanker which would allow him the financial stability to do more of the things he enjoyed. He was able to purchase a motorcycle, a 2005 Honda Goldwing, and a new passion was discovered. Ed and Dawn enjoyed cruising around on their Goldwing and they participated in several poker runs raising money for different organizations. Ed also loved spending time with his daughters, their husbands and all of his grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren with all of his heart. He was even able to check off one of his bucket list items which was to meet his great-granddaughter, Adley Maxine. Adley made her Pappaw’s heart light up with a new found desire to beat Glioblastoma and he fought as hard as he could to spend more time with his new little princess but his body became too tired and he made the tough decision to end the treatment that was robbing him of his ability to do all of the things he enjoyed. Luckily he knew the Lord and gave his life to Jesus. He made the decision knowing he would be going to his eternal home where he is without a doubt, watching over his family and friends and he will greet them all with his beautiful guitar music when they join him in Heaven.

After raising their daughters and years of memories, struggles and heartaches, Ed and Dawn divorced in 2019. It was just over a year later that he would be diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma. He started his fight against that evil beast with the woman that held his heart and his hand for the last 14 months of his life here on Earth, Kim (Schubert) Hofer, whom he married on October 24, 2020. Kim gave Ed the best care he could ask for and she did that so selflessly until his last breath. Ed and Kim were able to check another thing off of his bucket list before his body became too tired and they traveled to Florida so he could stick his toes in the sand. It was a challenging trip but they were surrounded by many angels on Earth who helped them overcome many obstacles they were faced with along the way.

Ed is survived by his wife, Kim; son Jeremy and his daughter Mya Tolliver; Daughter April and her husband Eric along with their children, Austin Smith and wife Carleigh, Alisyn Smith and her significant other Logan Stroud along with their daughter, Adley Stroud, Erynn Smith and Ella Smith; Daughter Tiffany and her husband Nick and their children Ryan Nance, Tabor Nance and Emmalee (Emma) Thomas; Stepchildren Joshua Schubert, Nicholas Schubert and his wife Brittany and Ashleigh Genners and her husband Christopher along with their children Raegyn, Isabelle and Theodore. He is also survived by brothers Jerry Hofer and Harry Hofer and sisters Terry Klepfer, Jean Stump and Lori Robinson.

Ed was proceeded in death by his Father, Harold Hofer, Mother Maxine Harmon, Step-father Donald Harmon, Sister Sherry Clark and Sister Millie Philips along with brother-in-law Michael Klepfer and brother-in-law Marc Stump.

Ed’s desire to find a cure for Glioblastoma so others don’t have to endure the heartache and pain associated with it led him to donate his body to research. Due to this selfless decision there will not be any funeral services.
The family wishes to extend its sincerest thank you to Woodlawn Family Funeral Center and the Christensen Family for their assistance and loving support.
