Gladys Carey

Gladys Louise Carey, born on April 12, 1949, in the charming town of Morrisonville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her residence on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. A pillar of strength and affection, Gladys captivated the hearts of those around her with her strong-willed nature and unwavering care.

Throughout her life, she was renowned for her culinary prowess; whether it was her tantalizing fried chicken or her comforting mac and tomatoes, Gladys' cooking was a cherished staple at family gatherings. Each meal shared was a thread woven into the fabric of memories—her love encapsulated within every bite.

Gladys found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had an adventurous spirit that drew her outdoors, where she would take long, leisurely walks, basking in the beauty of nature, especially near lakes that reflected the sky's serenity. An avid gamer, she immersed herself in video games, relishing the challenge and camaraderie they provided. The gathering of family and friends around a card table was another cherished pastime, with laughter echoing through the room, a testament to a life well-lived and filled with love.

Family was the cornerstone of Gladys’s existence. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Roger Carey, and three sons, Dennis Carey, Roger Carey Jr. and his wife Jodie, and Roy Carey and his wife Barbie, all of whom carry her legacy forward. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Buddy King and Vickie, Johnny King, Charles King and Janet, Joe King and Maryann, Jesse King and Debbie, Barbara Jones, and Jeanie Smith, who will hold her memory close. Eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren will continue to feel her influence in their lives.

Although she now joins her parents, Robert and Radia Davis King, and her cherished daughter Lori Ann Clem, as well as brothers Bobby "Dalles," Leo, and Glen King, and sisters Mary Brandenburgh, Connie Stamper, Vicky Cooper, and Glenda Brickley, their spirits entwine with hers in a love that transcends time and space.

Gladys Louise Carey leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her—the strong-willed matriarch whose love enveloped family and friends alike remains eternally imprinted in the lives she touched.

The family has chosen cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
