George Wayne “Bud” Gay, Sr., age 72 of Brownstown, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at his home. Born on November 3, 1944 in Surprise, he was the son of George and Avis (Anderson) Gay. On July 15, 1966 at the Tampico Baptist Church, Bud married the love of his life, Shirley Mantz.
Bud graduated from Cortland High School in 1962. After graduation, Bud joined the U.S. Navy and served his country until 1966. He went to work for PSI, Duke Energy, in 1965 and worked there as a lineman until he retired in 1999. Bud was a member of Surprise Christian and he enjoyed gardening, but those that knew him or visited his home knew that his real passion was woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of almost 51 years, Shirley; daughters Christina (Mike) Ritz of Vallonia, Kimberly (Tedd) Stucker of Brownstown and Kerri (Donny) Allman of Brownstown; siblings, John (Peggy) Gay of Seymour, Jean (Lloyd) Meyer of White Creek and Nancy Lucas of Seymour; sister in law, Lena Gay of Seymour. Bud also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a son, George Wayne Gay, Jr.; brothers, Tom Gay and Bill Gay and brother-in-law, Russell Lucas.
Services for Bud will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. Friends can call from 10:00am until 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will be at Acme Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials can be made at the funeral home to the Don & Dana Myers Cancer Center.
