Forrest Spurgeon

Forrest "Spanky" Spurgeon, age 68 of Seymour died at 3:10am Wednesday, December 12th at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born August 16, 1944 in Seymour, he was the son of Herschel and Edna (Hallett) Spurgeon. On October 26, 1969 in Bedford, Kentucky, he married Delphine Adams. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1962 and enjoyed going to class reunions and visiting with classmates. He retired from Cummins Engine Company on January 1, 2001 after 35 years of service. Forrest was a lifetime member of the Seymour First Nazarene where he served as a Sunday school teacher for boys and was a children's church helper, usher among other tasks. He and Delphine served the missionary side of the church and had went on several mission trips to such places as Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. Forrest took a huge interest in the church kids and encouraged them to attend church camps. He served the United States in the National Guard as a reservist for 6 years serving in several bases in the country. Forrest enjoyed being outside and working with his wood stove and had a huge interest in Allis Chalmers tractors and dearly loved his animals, especially Buttons and his current dog Ponto. His family remembers him being a very sensitive man who had a huge heart. Survivors include his wife Delphine, a son Damon (Irishe) Spurgeon of Columbus, a daughter Danielle Spurgeon of Seymour, a sister Carol Spurgeon of Seymour. Also surviving is Aunt Nona Jaynes of Seymour and several cousins. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents and several uncles and aunts. A funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday, December 15th at Seymour First Nazarene, 311 Myers Street in Seymour, with Pastors Steve Greene and Bryan Solomon officiating. A visitation will be held at the church Friday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and from 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow the services at Ackeret's Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the World Evangelism Fund for the Church of the Nazarene or toward the funeral expenses care of the funeral home.
