Everitt Eugene McNeely, age 89, a cherished member of the Scottsburg community and a beloved figure to all who knew him, departed this world on March 28, 2025, at the Hampton Oaks Health Campus. Born on September 21, 1935, in the heart of Scottsburg, Indiana, Everitt lived a life characterized by his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a beautiful sense of humor that warmed the hearts of many.
For over 30 years, he dedicated his career to Cummins, where his impressive work ethic shone brightly. Everitt was not just an employee; he was a pillar of reliability and commitment, traits that mirrored his dedication to his family. He took great pride in being a wonderful provider, building a legacy of love and support for those he held dear.
A proud graduate of Lexington High School in 1953, Everitt went on to embody the spirit of community service, becoming a devoted member of the Scottsburg First Presbyterian Church. For over 50 years, he contributed to the church’s activities and was honored to serve on the Session, reflecting his deep-rooted faith and commitment to his community.
Those fortunate enough to know Everitt will remember him as a quiet man whose laughter was infectious and whose presence was calming. He was a steadfast supporter of his family, particularly his daughter, Jeanne McNeely, who resides in Scottsburg, Indiana. Everitt also held dear his sister, Kathy Cloud, and her husband, Vandy, who brought further warmth to his life with their compassionate bond.
Everitt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ida Lightcap McNeely, with whom he shared 67 remarkable years of marriage. Their love was a testament to enduring partnership and mutual respect. He is also survived by the cherished memories of his parents, Ralph and Thelma Stifres McNeely, and his siblings: Robert, Jimmy, Annie Bell, and Darlene.
An animal lover at heart, Everitt found solace and joy in the company of his beloved cats, whose playful antics matched the warmth of his spirit. His passion for music, especially country tunes, filled his life with rhythm and nostalgia, accompanying him through countless seasons alongside family and friends.
In memory of Everitt Eugene McNeely, family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the Christensen - Hoagland Family Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana on April 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Additional visitation will take place on April 3, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Scottsburg Cemetery immediately following.
