Elizabeth Jean Whitham, age 81 of Madison, passed away at 5:45a.m. Saturday, August 17th at her home. She was born on June 25, 1932 near Canaan to James and Ethel (Miller) Brooks. On May 13, 1951 in Aurora, she married Robert Whitham. She had worked at Alton Box Company in Aurora and the Schenley Distillery in Lawrenceburg before retiring. She was a member of the Hicks Baptist Church. Jean loved country music and her favorite artist was Jim Ed Brown and even once had the pleasure of him coming off stage to her during a performance. Jean and Bob traveled to many places. They loved to travel and see music shows at the Little Nashville Opry, Renfro Valley Opry, Grand Old Opry and shows in Branson, Missouri and Myrtle Beach. They also traveled to Padre Island, Texas, visited the Ford Museum in Detroit, Disney World in Florida and vacationed in other Florida locations and Washington D.C. Jean loved to work in her flower gardens at home. Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert and then two children, Joyce Rose of Columbus and Douglas Whitham of Aurora. Also surviving is one sister, Elsie Freudenstein of Charlotte, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Curtis and James Brooks and three sisters, Edna Mae Collier, Doris Brooks and Virginia Brinson. A visitation will be held from 9:30am until 10:30am Wednesday, August 21st at the Vail Funeral Chapel, 117 Holt Drive in Madison. A service will be held at 10:30am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Benham Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society care of the funeral home.
