Elbert "Jukey" Hughes Jr., a beloved pillar of his family and community, passed away on August 17, 2024 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Born on February 22, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, Elbert's life was characterized by his strong-willed spirit, a goofy sense of humor, and an immense capacity for love. A Christian by faith, those who knew him often described him as a big teddy bear, embodying a warmth and kindness that brought joy to all he encountered.

Elbert dedicated his career to electronic repair, where he utilized his passion for all things electronic. Known for his skills and expertise, he helped many with their electronic needs, earning respect and gratitude from those he served. Beyond his professional life, he found great joy in his hobbies and interests. He had a profound love for cars, video games, and drag racing, often sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends. His dogs, Zeus and Poseidon, were cherished companions.

Family was a cornerstone of Elbert's life. He is survived by his son Taylor M. Hughes of Scottsburg, Indiana, his daughters Kristie Hughes of Chicago, Illinois; Tasha Burton and her husband James of Scottsburg, Indiana; Kari Hughes of Scottsburg, Indiana; and the mother of his children, Lois Hughes of Scottsburg, Indiana. Elbert was a devoted grandfather to Hayden Hughes, Landen Hughes, Kiera Estep, and Bryson Burton, taking great pride in attending their sports events and cheering them on.

Elbert is also survived by his sister, Linda Hughes Applegate, and her husband Mike, of Scottsburg, Indiana. The love within his family was a source of immense pride for Elbert, who relished the time spent together. He enjoyed traveling with friends, creating lasting memories and deepening his connections with those around him. One of his accomplishments included being the DJ in an online chatroom, where he played music and engaged in conversations that fostered friendships across distances.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Hughes Sr., and his mother, Eleanor Howard Hughes. Their legacy of love and support lives on through Elbert and his family, who will continue to honor his memory.

The life of Elbert Hughes Jr. was one marked by love, laughter, and a commitment to his family and friends. He will be profoundly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
