Dorothy Jean Garriott, 93, of Gibson Twp, Little York IN, passed away August 18, 2022 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville IN. She was born November 7 1928 in Mulberry, Clinton County Indiana to Almon Harshman and Mildred Lewis Harshman who preceded her in death. Jean attended grades 1-10 in Mulberry IN and grades 11 & 12 in Northfield MN, graduating in 1946. She then attended Carleton College in Northfield MN graduating in 1950 with a BA in Sociology. She furthered her education attending the Columbia University School of Occupational Therapy in New York, NY graduating as an OTR in 1952. Jean attended the Penland School of Handicrafts near Asheville NC for 9 weeks taking classes in various crafts and assisting the ceramics instructor. She enjoyed playing her flute in high school and college bands and also in summer community bands. She liked to read, do crafts, painting and being around animals. Jean met Marion Lee Garriott at Camp Carson, Colorado Springs in 1952 while he was stationed there in the Army. She worked as an OTR at the Sheppard-Enoch Pratt Hospital, Towson MD until June 1953. She married Marion Lee on August 2, 1953 in Mulberry IN. Since Marion Lee was a Journeyman Lineman they followed electrical construction jobs. After living in 17 places they settled in Gibson Twp near Little York in 1965. Jean belonged to the Little York Homemakers club and served several years as President. She attended the Mt. Hebron Christian Church for over 50 years. Jean is survived by 3 daughters; Janice Beatty and husband Paul of Louisville KY, Barbara Proctor & husband Delmer of Little York & Donna Jent of Little York area. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren, Jessie Lyles, Becky Geary, Michael Roberts all Louisville; Adam & Justin Richardson both of Salem IN; & Tyler Garriott of Salem; 9 great grandchildren; a nephew Paul Harshman of Mulberry IN; a niece Karen Skadberg of Lafayette IN; 2 great nephews; 2 great nieces. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years Marion Lee, her brother Lewis “Bud” Harshman, and her son-in-law Doug Bieghler.

Funeral Services for Jean will be 11am, Wednesday, August 24 2022 at Christensen-Hoagland Family Funeral Home, 8 N 1st St., Scottsburg, IN 47170. Visitation will be held 5pm-8pm, Tuesday, August 23 2022 & Wednesday, 9am-11am Wednesday, at the funeral home. Following the services, burial will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Washington County IN.
